Dr Waqar Muhammad Ashraf

Lab Director, Scale Lab | Systems, Computing & Analytics Lab for Engineering

Dr Waqar Muhammad Ashraf Dr. Waqar Muhammad Ashraf is a Machine Learning and Optimisation researcher, developing safe and domain-compliant methods for data-driven modelling and optimisation (robust, nonlinear, and bi-level) techniques. The innovated methods are applied in range of applications including process design and optimisation of metal recovery from waste printed circuit boards and electric discharge machining process, sustainable cooling system design and operation and operation excellence of combined cycle gas power plant.

Dr. Waqar has five years of industrial experience in plant commissiong & trial operation, and implementing data-driven decisions in the industrial operations. He is on the mission of cutting gigaton of emissions from energy intensive industries including power, chemical process and manufacturing sectors through fundamental research in AI and optimisation methods which are compliant with the industrial control systems.

He has extensive experience to work with multi-disciplinary teams and owes a wide collaborative network in the world. Our work is disseminated in the leading avenues including Nature Communication Sustainability, NeurIPS, Computers & Chemical Engineering, Energy Conversion and Management etc. We are pushing the knowledge boundaries with AI for Science in digital manufacturing and process systems, ensuring that the innovated methods are safe and create value for industry in particular and society in general.
